FPSO Cleaning- The most difficult industrial environment on Earth?
An increasingly common aspect of oil production, floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units are now a mainstay of many offshore oil installations. The ability to process and store hydrocarbons in close proximity to drilling platforms allows producers to exploit oil and gas reserves where laying an export pipeline is either impossible or not cost effective.
But in the same way traditional hydrocarbon processing plants are subject to pipe blockage and heat transfer issues, so too are their floating counterparts. The unique operating environment of the FPSO and the relative rarity of such units (there are only 200 or so FPSO platforms in operation globally) can make finding a suitable maintenance contract provider very difficult.
Why is FPSO pipework maintenance so difficult?
Designed to operate offshore in locations where traditional export pipes are unfeasible, FPSOs by their very nature tend to be located in inaccessible regions of the globe. When moored near platforms in the open ocean, FPSOs are subject to extreme weather conditions, making maintenance of heat exchangers and pipes even more difficult.
And although hydrocarbon processing onboard FPSOs may be similar to that of their onshore counterparts, there are distinct differences. The enclosed nature of an FPSO vessel makes it extremely difficult to access certain pipes and equipment for instance.
Servicing and repairing heat exchange equipment located on an FPSO requires a specialist skillset outside the offerings of many maintenance service providers. Fortunately Tubetech has the skills, experience and expert consultants to carry out onboard FPSO pipework cleaning and maintenance, having completed many similar projects in the past around the world.
If you would like to know more about tube inspection onboard your FPSO, call Tube Tech on 01268 786999. As the world’s leading experts in tube inspection and maintenance, our team can inspect heat exchanger pipework onboard your FPSO. We will give your business an accurate understanding of pipework health, in addition to completing maintenance routines which will leave heat exchangers and associated pipework in good-as-new condition.
