Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of some frequently asked questions about our services and technology. If your question is not listed, please contact us directly and a Tube Tech specialist will respond to your enquiry within 24 hours.

Will robotic technology damage fins?

No – Unless fins are severely corroded. If they are generally in good order, and made from ca 1 to 2mm steel plate, they can theoretically take a distributed load of 500 kg over 24 CM(2). Our robot weighs 25kg.

What is the water pressure used?

Typically, it can apply pressures of between 500 bar to 4000 bar (60,000 psi), dependent on fouling it needs to remove. The robot fouling removal system will operate at 700-850 bar.

What water volume is used?

We assume 25L/m with a system operating for a typical period of six to seven hours within a 10-hour shift.

How does the robot work?

The Robot is a vehicle placed on the top row of every convection bank (subject to height clearance between banks). The remotely controlled Robot travels along the length of the bank. The fouling removal lance is computer controlled and is of various length dependent on the pitch and depth of bank is positioned, such that it slides down between the tubes, which are generally on a triangular pitch arrangement. This solution allows for fouling removal deep between the tube rows.

Due to the close proximity of the fouling removal head in relation to the fouling between the fins, i.e. 5 to 10mm the pressure easily removes the hardest type of fouling that can be found e.g. refractory like cement, sulphur, and concrete like deposits. No other fouling removal or traditional cleaning system can promise this. The Robot can apply different blast medium e.g. air, steam, chemical, CO2, liquid nitrogen. It even carries an inspection video probe to inspect and prove fouling removal effectiveness after the fouling removal process for the client’s satisfaction. Again, no other contractor offers this.

What is the size and weight of the robot?

The standard Robot weighs approx. 25/Kgs (single lift by a single person) has an overall width of 470 mm x 230 mm high.
