Eleven staff members from a Rayleigh based specialist industrial cleaning contractor firm have managed to lose weight equal to 128 packs of lard in just 6 weeks – and lost a total of 70 pounds.
Technical and administrative staff from Tube Tech took part in a six week Corporate Fit Challenge organised by Excel Health & Performance in an aim to improve their lifestyles. “We work across the world in hazardous conditions such as offshore oil platforms and on oil refineries,” says Martin Byford, Operations Director at Tube Tech. “Being fit and healthy is very important in our industry and we are pleased that so many of our team committed to the Corporate Fit Challenge.”
The challenge involved regular exercise classes at Excel Health Performance, transforming lifestyle habits, adjusting diets and reducing caffeine intake to help Tube Tech become a Healthier Workforce. The team included; technicians Billy Wallington, Carl Rushbrook, Tony Holland, Peter Kelly and Paul Setters; IT Manager Richard Hayward; Mechanical Design Engineer Derek Sumsion and administrative staff Liz Hunt, Val Rayment and Kelly White. “Paul Setters, who came second among the group, was having to get up very early to travel from Colchester to attend group training sessions at 6am,” says Martin. “The commitment from them all was superb and has set a great example to the rest of the team. This is just the start and we will be continuing to transform our entire workforce”.
The teams achievements were recognised at an award ceremony at Tube Tech’s offices where Derek Sumsion was announced the overall winner having lost a staggering 22 pounds and 11 inches. “The Tube Tech team managed to lose more weight than other companies with 120 staff so should be really proud of themselves,” says Jemma Govier of Excel Health & Performance.
