A team from Tube Tech International joined the UK’s top business leaders at the Institute of Directors (IoD) 2019 UK Director of the Year award finals. Jon Camp, our managing director was shortlisted for both the International UK Director of the Year and the Chairman’s award after winning the International Director of the Year and the Chairman’s award at the IoD East of England awards ceremony in June. Although he didn’t win the national title, we proudly saw Jon and Tube Tech recognised for excellence in leadership alongside outstanding competition from across the UK.

Hosted by legendary broadcaster, Sir Trevor McDonald, the glittering ceremony took place at The Brewery in London.

Among the winners were Pauline Howie, chief executive of the Scottish Ambulance Service, who took home the award for Public Sector Director of the Year; Margot Cronin, NED at HSBC Life and Tesco Underwriting, who was named Chartered Director of the Year; and Guy Schanschieff, founder of Bambino Mio, who was crowned International Director of the Year.

Opening the ceremony, Charlotte Valeur, Chair of the Institute of Directors said:

“Rarely have the challenges faced by directors been so vast and so varied. I believe this makes it all the more important that the IoD is ready to shine the spotlight on your success.

“The best directors don’t just benefit their own company or their own shareholders. They certainly aren’t just in it for themselves. The best directors are an asset to the whole of their community, through the leadership they show and the new ideas they make into a reality.”

The ceremony included a three-course lunch and even featured a video message from current Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Speaking at the end of the event, Jon Camp said:

“It has been a fantastic day and it’s inspiring to be recognised at an event like this, alongside some of the best business leaders in the country. I’m humbled to be here today, and I’d like to congratulate all the winners and thank the IoD for hosting a brilliant ceremony.

“Although I didn’t come away with the national award, I am immensely proud of what we have achieved as a team at Tube Tech over the past couple of years, and we’ll continue to go from strength-to-strength.”

Attended by business leaders, entrepreneurs, government and media representatives, the IoD awards ceremony celebrates the very ‘best of the best’ in British business.

Well done Jon; we didn’t have room for any more silverware anyway!
